This programme, open to emerging artists of all disciplines, women aged 18-25, explores diverse tools for artistic expression through various creative mediums and processes. Placing a strong emphasis on documentation, research strategies and experimentation, fostering an interdisciplinary approach, students are encouraged to push beyond traditional boundaries and embrace unconventional methods of visual storytelling and creative direction.
Emphasizing the importance of consistent documentation via writing, textile making, scrap-booking and photography, participants will be guided to creatively transform their research using various techniques, such as scanning, photography, printing, stenciling, bookmaking, binding, combining textiles and sewing into a multi-medium storytelling compendium.
The mentorship incorporates a dynamic, iterative process of refining ideas through critique, feedback, and collaboration, while grounding the work in broader cultural, social, or historical contexts. Throughout the journey, each student will develop their own unique collection, culminating in a limited-edition print documentation.
This course challenges the preconceived notions linked to the demands of the fashion industry and allows for a space to access alternative approaches to finding inspiration and executing ideas through introspection, dialogue and experimentation; forging new pathways toward a more sustainable future of fashion for upcoming generations of artists and storytellers.
Participants are invited to apply for this residency via the application portal below. If you do not feel comfortable in your writing, you are welcome to request a phone / zoom interview.
