Mentorship Programme

StorytellingThrough Garment + Object

Led by Naveli Choyal + Karoline Robl

February 16th - 21st, 2024

Objective:

This 5 day workshop meets residency, hosted in Jaipur by Naveli Choyal and Karoline Robl, is created for female artists and creatives (18-28) who are developing their practice and looking for mentorship opportunities in the realm of fashion photography, styling and creative direction. Over the course of the week, participants will be prompted to translate “garment and object” into powerful image making; building a visual vocabulary using every-day accessible materials, research tools and discovering symbolic narratives through styling and image creation.

With the goal of harnessing young talent and making creative work accessible, this course challenges us to rethink the limitations of fashion and forge new pathways for a budding generation of artists. The course will culminate with an exhibition showcasing the works created throughout the week.

Overview:

The fluidity of this course offers a unique perspective from industry professionals who have built careers through anti-establishment thinking and innovation. Participants are prompted to explore their own personal histories and influences from every aspect of their lives, learning from each other and creating fun and cohesive narratives. Championing freedom of expression and creative play, participants are encouraged to break from the limiting ideas of “style” and capitalist constraints of mainstream fashion ideals.

This course challenges the preconceived notions linked to the demands of the fashion industry and allows for a space to access alternative approaches to finding inspiration and executing ideas through introspection, dialogue and experimentation; forging new pathways toward a more sustainable future of fashion for upcoming generations of artists and storytellers.

Participants are invited to apply for this residency via the application portal below. If you do not feel comfortable in your writing, you are welcome to request a phone / zoom interview.
